Dissertation Title: Education Factors Inhibiting Nurses from Providing Spiritual Care:聽 A Qualitative Narrative Inquiry
Program:聽 DHA
Significance:聽 The purpose of this qualitative narrative inquiry research study was to examine stories nurses share about education and how stories related to providing spiritual care to patients. Using Watson's theory of human caring, the study involved collecting and analyzing data from 11 nurses who actively work with patients at bedside providing spiritual care. Participants shared stories and experiences through narrative storytelling how education related to providing spiritual care to patients. The major implication was that many nurses do not feel they have received educational courses to prepare and support them in providing spiritual care. Leaders may use this study to examine nurses鈥 need for education and support to create strategies to offer nurses providing spiritual care to patients.
